Offer opportunity.
“We don’t have an endowment that is worthy of Providence College and its aspirations. The endowment is what gives an institution financial flexibility. It is also the principal source of scholarships and professorships."
– College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. '80
Providence College offers qualified young men and women the
opportunity of a lifetime – the chance to earn a degree from an academically
rigorous, nationally recognized Catholic and Dominican liberal arts college.
Despite awarding $49.5 million in total College–funded
scholarships and grant aid in academic year 2010-2011, Providence College meets, on average, only 81% of
student’s financial need. Under College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P.’s leadership, closing this financial
accessibility gap is a critical priority in the College’s strategic plan.
Consider the financial challenges for our students and
their families:
- Unmet
freshmen-year need for students with greatest need can be $9,000 to $16,000.
- PC’s
highest-need students graduate with close to $75,000 in debt.
- After
graduation, some students face loan repayment rates of $750/month for the next
10 to 15 years.
The continued growth of our endowment will
help ensure that the College can confidently offer admission and full financial
aid to qualified students from diverse socio-economic and disadvantaged
backgrounds.
Give students the opportunity of a lifetime to
say “YES” to a Providence College education. Support Financial Aid.
