Who was Malcolm H. Brown?
Malcolm H. Brown was a trainer with the Providence College football team in the 1930s. Noted for always having 'a smile and a derby," Mal was an inspiration to all who knew him.
His passing in 1939 at the age of 34 marked the end of his laughter and companionship for the athletes of Providence College. Though words could never express the inspiration he gave, his memory continues to live on.
In 1956, the Providence College Alumni Association officially recognized the Greater Providence Chapter of the Providence College Alumni Association as the "Mal Brown Club." The logo—comprised of the Veritas symbol and a derby—serves as recognition of all alumni in the Greater Providence area who knew and loved Mal Brown.
Today, the club is comprised of a majority of alumni who never knew Mal Brown or Providence College in the 1930s. However, the truth, love, and loyalty of PC, which was characteristic of Mal Brown, is still present in the alumni and students of today.
