What are the age categories?
Group 1: 18 and under
Group 2: 19-29
Group 3: 30-39
Group 4: 40-49
Group 5: 50-59
Group 6: 60-69
Group 7: 70 and over
Where should I park?
Parking is limited on race day. We ask that you arrive early and enter through our Eaton Street Gate. Once on campus, guests will be directed to park in the lots near the Smith Center for the Arts. Runners should then make their way to the Smith Center for check-in.
When do I pick up my bib number and packet?
You can pick up your packet on Friday, Sept. 28 from 4:30 – 7 p.m. in McPhail’s, or you can pick up your packet the morning of the race starting at 8 a.m. in the Smith Center.
Can I sign up on race day?
Yes. Online registration will close at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27., but guests can register at both packet pick-up locations onsite. The price will increase to $25 for PC students and children under 18, and $35 for everyone else.
Is there a bag check?
Yes. We offer a bag check and will monitor personal items closely during the race. Bag check is located in the Smith Center for the Arts and will close at 11:00 a.m.
Is there a place to shower or change on campus?
The men’s and women’s locker rooms in the Peterson Recreation Center are available for use by any race participants. Please tell the desk attendant you are a Friar 5K registrant.
What are the award categories?
Awards are presented to the top overall man and woman. First, second, and third place for both men and women will also be awarded in all seven age groups: 18 and under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over.
What is going on after the race?
Immediately after the race, our annual Fan Fest will kick off on the lawn in front of the Ryan Center for Business Studies. Co-sponsored by the Providence College Athletics Department, Fan Fest includes kids’ activities, vendors, a rock wall sponsored by ROTC and the National Guard, and a beer garden sponsored by Jeremy Duffy ’93 and the Guild Brewery, for 21+ runners to enjoy one complimentary beverage. Fan Fest runs until the 1 p.m. kick-off of the men’s BIG EAST soccer game at Anderson Stadium. All are welcome!
What if it rains?
The Friar 5K race will continue rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, Fan Fest activities will take place inside the Ryan Center for Business Studies.
Do I need my ID?
Runners will be asked to present an ID at check-in. Those who are 21+ will receive bracelets to ensure access to the post-race beer garden, sponsored by the Guild.
