Friar T.I.E.S Events in November

In April 2020, Providence College launched Friar T.I.E.S., a totally interactive engagement series, for the Friartown community to stay connected while socially distant. While we are still all navigating the challenges of the ongoing pandemic, PC will continue to develop virtual program to showcase the best of the College – our alumni, students, faculty, and Dominican community.  

ROTC Alumni: Where are they now 
Noon | Tuesday, Nov. 10  

The Army ROTC Patriot Battalion will host a “Where Are They Now” panel of military alumni in honor of Veterans Day. This virtual program will feature thoughts and reflections from alumni about their experiences in the military, at PC, and/or from the ROTC program, as well as highlights from recent ROTC training sessions. Join the Friar family for a lively discussion with those who have served, including:

• Col. Gerald F. Dillon ’68, ’74G
• Col. Ryan Dillon ’95
• Lt. Justin Bergner ’19
• Lt. Jordan Bernard ’18

The event will be co-hosted by LTC Tyler Jones and Cadet Kathryn Fama ’21.

Veterans Day Ceremony 
3 p.m. ET | Wednesday, Nov. 11 

Join the Patriot Battalion for this annual ceremony to honor veterans and recognize their sacrifice and service. This year’s ceremony will be livestreamed from St. Dominic Chapel. It will include a tribute to Sgt. Major Gary P. Fortunato ’00SCE, longtime ROTC instructor and operations officer, who died in April.

Changing Jobs? Do This Now! 
7 p.m. ET | Thursday, Nov. 12 

While shifting jobs during a pandemic may seem challenging, it may also be the right time for you to make a change. Join three Friar alums for a conversation on navigating a job change during this unique time in history.

TDF Presents Cast(e) | A devised performance piece inspired by Black voices and responding to racial injustice
Premiering Thursday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. EST

Using the various concepts and exercises from the medium of devised theatre, the cast worked as an artistic collective to create a piece of movement-based theatre that is reflective of and responsive to the country’s systemic and deep-seated racial inequities. The company of artists is diverse, and through physicalized improvisations, character conception and story development, consciously creates theatre that makes space for black characters and black stories to be told at Providence College.

Alumni Book Club Announcement for National Kindness Day  
Friday, Nov. 13

We could all use some caring and self-compassion in these days of uncertainty and stress. In celebration of National Kindness Day, PC will announce the fourth book in the Alumni Book Club reading series, which will explore these themes and feature a surprise alumni author.  

Meet the Class of ’71 Committee   
4:30 p.m. ET | Monday, Nov. 16 

Members of the Class of ’71 are invited to put on their favorite Friar gear, pour their favorite beverage, and meet their reunion committee from the comfort of their own living room.  Committee members will share upcoming engagement plans, goals for the class, and offer the opportunity to reconnect with classmates by major and affinity.  

Women in STEM  
6 p.m. | Tuesday, Nov. 17 

Come learn from STEM professionals about the challenges and opportunities for women in the STEM fields. The speakers were recruited and selected by STEM faculty to share their professional experiences and offer tips on navigating their professional path.

Money Matters in Retirement: Preparing for the transfer of wealth 
6 p.m. ET | Wednesday, Nov. 18 

Part of the Providence College Money Matters webinar series

It may be true that “love makes the world go ’round,” but it is equally accurate that money matters. Join financial and legal experts for insights into managing investments to generate income, options for reducing taxes during retirement, the importance of putting your financial and estate planning documents in order, and philanthropic giving. The session will provide valuable insights for alumni, including those with parents or other relatives at retirement age.
