We hope you will consider participating in our alumni programs or, better yet, joining the Alumni Club to further your connection with your alma mater.

Outgoing President Katie Ferris ’13 Reflects on Joining PCCNY

In September 2013, about three months after the Providence College Class of 2013 Commencement, I was in the basement of Brother Jimmy’s at the Friar Fall Kickoff, my first official PC alumni event. I didn’t live in New York City yet and was commuting each day from Long Island. I wasn’t entirely sure what it meant to be involved in the Alumni Association, let alone what the acronym PCCNY meant, and, to be honest, I didn’t even know if I wanted to take on a leadership role in this new stage of my life. However, at some point during the night someone very boldly said to me “you’re Katie Ferris, I’ve heard about you.” That statement came with a drink, a business card, and a speech about the Providence College Club of New York. It also came with an ask —to get involved.

Even though I felt slightly unsettled in my life at the time, having just graduated and starting a new job, I was also looking for a way to stay connected to fellow Friars and the place I had called home for four years. I said “Yes,” took the business card (and the drink), took in the information, and sent an email the next day asking to learn more.

That email led me to join the PCCNY Christmas Party committee, which eventually led to weekly emails, coffees, meetings, actively being a part of the full calendar of event planning, and then being appointed the club’s first female president in July 2016.

2,958 emails, 1,149 Instagram posts, 1,000+ alumni interactions, 100+ in-person NYC events, 9 alumni relations club liaisons, 8 seasons of PC basketball game watch seasons and Big East Tournaments at Madison Square Garden, 1 pandemic, and 1 decade later, I’m so happy I said “Yes” and got involved in this extraordinary Friar Family.

I am honored to be a part of the Providence College Club of New York’s 90+ year legacy and I am so proud of the team I had the privilege of volunteering alongside over the last 10 years. Thank you PCCNY leadership past and present, including board members, event chairs, volunteers, and the Providence College Office of Institutional Advancement team for your support, leadership, friendship, and commitment to the Club. I am grateful to all past presidents of the Providence College Club of New York for their years of guidance and encouragement. I strongly believe the Club will continue to thrive and evolve under the new leadership of Megan Manning ‘18. I encourage all NYC Friars of all class years to get involved and be a part of this new chapter. Just say “Yes.”

Meet Megan Manning ’18, New PCCNY Club President

Megan Manning '18 and friends

The Providence College Club of New York is proud to announce and introduce its new President Megan Manning ’18. Megan has been a dedicated and loyal volunteer leader in the New York metro area through her involvement with PCCNY since graduation. She served on the leadership board and as the PCCNY Service Chair.

Here’s a little more information about Megan:

What was your major? English Creative Writing
Where did you grow up? Portland, Oregon
Where do you presently work? As a sales manager for Simon & Schuster
What were a few things you were involved in during your time at PC: Editor-In-Chief of The Alembic, Concert Chorale, Dance Club, Classics Society, Gaelic Society
What is your favorite PCCNY event /memory? Watching PC basketball games at Jack Demsey’s is one of my favorite things to do with PCCNY. Wherever you go in the world, Friars always bring the best energy to basketball – screaming “You Belong with Me” at the top of their lungs while watching a close game, or having the best home base for the Big East Tournament. Only Friars get to experience this. Alumni from all class years come to root for the Friars and it is something truly unique to witness and so fun to be right in the center of the action.
Why do you think other alumni should get involved? Getting involved in PCCNY is such a great opportunity to build community and connection with fellow Friars in New York City. Whether you are looking for friends to watch a game with, opportunities to engage with and serve our greater community, or fun events to connect with other professionals in the city, the Providence College Club of New York offers so many different ways to bring the Friar energy to NYC.
